Our History

Bring Back Our Beaches (BBOB) originated in San Clemente, driven by locals and surfers alarmed by the long-standing disappearance of sand along the coastline. Initially a small group of concerned locals, the effort has since evolved into a thriving community movement advocating for action and awareness.

Our first major initiative was creating a documentary that showcased the alarming loss of sand along San Clemente's beaches. The film resonated deeply, garnering strong support and positive feedback from the community. Encouraged by this response, we expanded our efforts to social media, using it to raise awareness on a broader scale. Our growing online presence has connected us with a diverse audience, including local advocates passionate about San Clemente's beaches and supporters worldwide confronting similar challenges along their shorelines.

Building on the success of our initiatives and the support from the community, we have formalized our efforts as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This designation allows us to foster greater involvement and expand BBOB’s initiatives, driving meaningful and positive outcomes for the community.

Inspired by successful beach nourishment projects worldwide, we are eager to raise awareness to beaches and best practices for restoring them.
